Product Description

Pershore County Senior School opened its doors for the first time on Tuesday 12th January 1932. It could accommodate 480 children, all of whom had to have attained the age of 11 years. The new school should have welcomed its first pupils in the previous September, but there were problems with the builders, and so it was a term later that the 430 boys and girls first met the headmaster, Mr M L Pardoe and his 13 teachers.

The book charts the story of its first eighty years, starting in the 1930s, through the period of the Second World War and pupils evacuated to Worcestershire from West Ham and Essex, to 1982 and the visit of Princess Anne to mark the school’s Golden Jubilee. Liberally sprinkled with photographs, press cuttings, numerous personal recollections from pupils, staff and friends of Pershore High School, and assorted pieces of memorabilia, the reader is led through the key events in the school’s development under its first five head teachers up to 2012.
